Shao Kao Grillery – “Tasty Bits of Heaven on a Stick”

We never thought this day would come folks; we found a place that actually made us enjoy vegetables more than meat. As self-proclaimed meatatarians(it’s a real thing, it even has a wiki page!), meat is always the most important part of any meal. Until today. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen – Shao Kao Grillery has completely opened our eyes. Grilled vegetables are a magical thing, and this place knows how to do it right.

Our Verdict on the McDonald’s McRib: WORTH IT or NAH?

So I’ve tried the new craze that McDonald’s Philippines had to offer to the general public today – the McRib. It was a very warm day and my wife invited me out to Mickey D’s for some McFlurry before turning in for the night (or morning as we are night-shifters). I was, in my mind, thinking of maybe getting some nuggets together with my Oreo-filled soft serve just for a treat but upon getting there, I got excited as I saw the big poster for McDonald’s new item on their menu! I convinced myself, and my wife eventually, that I just HAD to try it out to see what the hype is all about. Continue reading

Sushi Overload at Tempura Japanese Grill

Originally published on our former blog, November 28th, 2014

***disclaimer: since we wrote this post, Tempura Japanese Grill has taken both the Spicy Tuna Roll and the Firecracker Crisp off of their menu, much to our disappointment***

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a HUGE sushi lover – and since meeting David, I’ve done my best to turn him into one too, and I’ve been fairly successful. We recently had a very bad experience at Roku Sushi & Ramen which WAS one of our favorite sushi places in Manila, but all it takes is finding one cockroach in your food to ensure you’ll never be going back somewhere, ever, EVER again. Omakase is still one of our favorite sushi restaurants in Manila, but it felt wrong having only one place to be able to count on getting some good sushi.

So yesterday at lunch time, we went off to try Tempura Japanese Grill at the recommendation of one of David’s friends, in hopes of finding a replacement for our sushi needs. Sitting down, we were handed a menu that caused us to immediately start drooling. Every picture in their menu looked spectacular, and even though we’d only meant to come and order one or two sushi rolls as a snack, we ended up over-ordering because everything was too tasty-looking to resist. We tried not to expect too much though – the food never comes out quite like the photos, right? We were happy to see we were wrong about that as the food arrived!

Spontaneous Road Trip To Tagaytay!

Originally published on our former blog, December 16th, 2014

So just this last weekend, David and I decided to go for a little road trip! We’re currently going through the process of buying a house in Cavite, which is requiring us to take several trips back and forth from Quezon City to Imus, Cavite. And since Imus is already halfway to Tagaytay, we figured it was time to go visit this famous city, and get up close to the beautiful Taal Lake and Taal Volcano!

I Want Omakase – The one place in Manila that I can always count on for amazing sushi

Originally published on our former blog site, February 3rd, 2015

Everyone has that one thing that they just crave all the time, that one food item they would never ever turn down – for me, it’s sushi. I think it’s the only food in the world that I could eat on a daily basis and never get tired of. I’ve tried several different sushi restaurants in Manila, but most of them have come up short in the end – Roku Sushi & Ramen served us food with a cockroach in it which kinda ruined the whole restaurant for us, and Tempura Japanese Grill was amazing while it lasted – right up until they took all of our favorite sushi rolls off of their menu.

The only place that we have been able to consistently count on to be delicious is Omakase! They get a huge thank you from me for being the only sushi restaurant in Manila that has never once disappointed me. We made another stop at the Greenhills branch just last weekend, where we once again indulged in my favorite delicacy.
