Getting my 13a Permanent Residency Visa!

After two years of being a tourist in the beautiful Philippine Islands(August 23rd, 2015 will be my 2 year anniversary), I finally started the process of applying for my permanent residency. I thought I’d share my experience here as it’s been hard for me to find information on the process myself, so maybe my experience can help someone else who is about to go through it in the future.

Claire-Bear’s Story

Today, we lost our little puppy Claire-Bear. She was our little angel, our scruffy princess, and she was loved so much more than we could possibly say. She deserved at least a decade more on this planet with us, but tragically she was taken by the horrible Distemper Virus. After a long, hard fight, her suffering has finally ended. To memorialize our precious baby, I want to share her story.

Honeymoon Motorcycle Roadtrip to Subic

When David and I got married in January, we were trying to stick to a fairly low budget. Since we didn’t have much money to spare, buying plane tickets to go somewhere exotic and out of the country for our honeymoon was totally out of the question. We still were able to have an amazing adventure, however. We picked the Subic/Olangapo area as our destination, bought a map, fueled up the motorcycle, and headed out for what would be an unforgettable adventure!

The Versatile Blogger Award

Hello readers!

So The Writers In Tandem have been nominated for The Versatile Blogger Award! Huge thanks to LOU & HOSHUA’S ADVENTURES, the bloggers that nominated us! I definitely recommend that you check out their blog as well, particularly their recipe for “Rogan Hosh” chicken that is to die for(I actually cooked it myself and it was amazing!)

“‘The Versatile Blogger Award’ is for the blogs that bring special talents to Life.  In choosing nominees, the quality of the writing is considered, the uniqueness of the topics presented, and the level of love displayed in the words on the virtual page. An added quality of authenticity to the photographs is evident through the field of vision.

The guidelines are as follows. Answer the questions you have been given, nominate 10 different bloggers, and feel free to revise a new set of questions for them to answer. Ready. Set. GO!”

1) What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I tend to be a pretty open book, so I don’t think there’s much that I can say that would surprise people. I had a pet duck once, I guess that’s something that relatively few people know about. His name was Skillet, after the band.

Shao Kao Grillery – “Tasty Bits of Heaven on a Stick”

We never thought this day would come folks; we found a place that actually made us enjoy vegetables more than meat. As self-proclaimed meatatarians(it’s a real thing, it even has a wiki page!), meat is always the most important part of any meal. Until today. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen – Shao Kao Grillery has completely opened our eyes. Grilled vegetables are a magical thing, and this place knows how to do it right.

Baked Lemon-Butter & Garlic Salmon

Salmon tends to be a bit expensive to buy, so it’s a really rare purchase for us. This last weekend though, I was really craving it so we picked up a couple of fillets and I made a super easy but super delicious lemon-butter and garlic dish with it. It’s a pretty basic thing to make, it’s really just as simple as it sounds, but here’s the recipe that I threw together!

Comfort Food Recipe: Crepes a la Abby with Strawberry Compote

Originally published on our former blog, November 29th, 2014

As a kid, Sundays were my favorite day of the week because if my brother and I behaved realllly well and asked my mom reaaaaally nicely, she just might make us her famous crepes for breakfast. Well, now that I’m all grown up and a big girl, I can make them all by myself! With a quick and easy strawberry compote and some bacon on the side, this is still one of my favorite comfort foods and a treat whenever I have the time to make them. They’re relatively simple to make, so here’s my secret family recipe for you to try at home!

Sushi Overload at Tempura Japanese Grill

Originally published on our former blog, November 28th, 2014

***disclaimer: since we wrote this post, Tempura Japanese Grill has taken both the Spicy Tuna Roll and the Firecracker Crisp off of their menu, much to our disappointment***

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a HUGE sushi lover – and since meeting David, I’ve done my best to turn him into one too, and I’ve been fairly successful. We recently had a very bad experience at Roku Sushi & Ramen which WAS one of our favorite sushi places in Manila, but all it takes is finding one cockroach in your food to ensure you’ll never be going back somewhere, ever, EVER again. Omakase is still one of our favorite sushi restaurants in Manila, but it felt wrong having only one place to be able to count on getting some good sushi.

So yesterday at lunch time, we went off to try Tempura Japanese Grill at the recommendation of one of David’s friends, in hopes of finding a replacement for our sushi needs. Sitting down, we were handed a menu that caused us to immediately start drooling. Every picture in their menu looked spectacular, and even though we’d only meant to come and order one or two sushi rolls as a snack, we ended up over-ordering because everything was too tasty-looking to resist. We tried not to expect too much though – the food never comes out quite like the photos, right? We were happy to see we were wrong about that as the food arrived!
